 A chance visit to Egypt in 1873 by Amelia B Edwards changed the future of British Egyptology forever. Her travelogue, A Thousand Miles Up the Nile, continues to inspire readers to take up her mission to support and promote Egyptian cultural heritage.\n
 But who was this enigmatic woman who changed the course of history? This event unpacks her life and legacy as reveals some little-known stories about Amelia’s personal relationships with other women during her travels around Europe in the 19th century.\n
Speaker bio
 Dr Carl Graves is Director of the Egypt Exploration Society. He completed his PhD at the University Â鶹¾«Ñ¡, and his research now focuses on ancient Egyptian settlement archaeology and the development of British Egyptology during the late nineteenth century.\n
