Birmingham Dubai launches emirate鈥檚 first PhD in Artificial Intelligence at Dubai AI Week

The University 麻豆精选 Dubai's launch of the emirate's first PhD in AI marks a significant milestone in advancing regional AI education and research.

The University 麻豆精选 Dubai announced the launch of the emirate鈥檚 first-ever PhD programme in Artificial Intelligence, marking a milestone in the advancement of AI education and research in the region.

The initiative was announced during in the presence of HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, organised by the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence and the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF). It supports the UAE鈥檚 National AI Strategy 2031 and reinforces Dubai鈥檚 ambition to become a global hub for AI innovation.

The PhD programme is purpose-built to be broad based and contribute to Dubai鈥檚 AI agenda, addressing core national and regional priorities such as smart city development, advanced healthcare, sustainability, and future mobility. These sectors form the backbone of Dubai鈥檚 digital transformation and AI leadership strategy.

Students who enroll in the programme will benefit from direct access to a globally connected academic network and collaborative research opportunities with regional industry leaders.

Our goal is to equip scholars with the real-world insight needed to address the most pressing challenges facing society through the power of artificial intelligence.鈥

PhD candidates will pursue diverse streams including AI for medicine and healthcare; natural language processing; computer vision; AI ethics and regulatory framework; and explainable and trustworthy AI. Students will receive personalised academic supervision; advanced research skills training; and access to AI labs, incubators, and government innovation initiatives.

Students will also have opportunities to present at international conferences and engage in entrepreneurial and translational research pathways.

The programme is fully accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and is recognised nationally and regionally for academic and research excellence.
