The Mary-Kay Gamel Outreach Prize is awarded to society members that excel in making an aspect of classical antiquity accessible to a non-academic audience. As a columnist for the Daily Beast alongside regular contributions to outlets including Atlantic Monthly, the New York Times, and CNN, Professor Moss鈥 engagement with the public on contemporary issues surrounding theology and religion has made her one of the pre-eminent scholars in her field for academics and non-academics alike. 

Reacting to the award, Professor Moss said: 鈥淚t is a tremendous honour to receive this award, particularly as a scholar of ancient religion whose work sits at the intersection of theology and classics. It is wonderful to be recognized for public facing work in a moment when understanding our past is pressingly relevant to our future and to public discourse.鈥

Professor Moss released her latest book in 2024. 鈥樷 uncovered the story of the enslaved people instrumental in the writing of the New Testament. Hailed as 鈥榞roundbreaking鈥 and 鈥榤onumental鈥, Candida presents her research into early Christianity and the formation of the bible in a 鈥樷 way.
