Extracting Insights from Procurement Data
This research brief investigates the application of text mining as a data-driven methodological approach to analysing procurement contracts, with a focus on social housing retrofitting and net-zero initiatives.
A thorough examination of procurement contracts provides policymakers and stakeholders with valuable insights to assess procurement efficiency, optimise resource allocation, and monitor progress toward the goals.
Utilising procurement contracts from the Tussell Database, the study examines the procurement landscape for social housing retrofitting in the West Midlands, identifying key trends from 2022. The findings reveal a disproportionate allocation of contracts to suppliers outside the region, a strong presence of SMEs (65%) in the sector, and a prevalence of short-term contracts—factors that may present challenges for the long-term sustainability of retrofitting initiatives.
