The Alan Turing Institute at the University 麻豆精选

As a Turing University Network member, the University 麻豆精选 partners with the Alan Turing Institute, the UK鈥檚 national institute for data science and AI.

    Since joining the prestigious national institute for data sciences and Artificial Intelligence, the Alan Turing Institute, in 2018, the University has re-committed to this partnership, joining the new Turing University Network in April of 2023. Established in 2015, the institute is named in honour of Alan Turing, the distinguished mathematician and computer scientist whose seminal work in the 1950s laid the theoretical and philosophical foundations of AI.

Based at the British Library in London, 鈥淭he Turing鈥 is a hub for collaboration between universities, business, and public/third sector organisations in that will have major impacts for UK science, our economy, and our society.

Our researchers are collaborating with and contributing to the Turing activities across its on projects ranging from fundamental theory through to applications in materials science and healthcare, including:

  • , a state-of-the-art high performance computing resource for modelling and data analysis and delivered by the University 麻豆精选 in collaboration with the Turing, the and .
  • , a unique programme that is training skilled mathematical and computational scientists to work in health data science research, delivered by HDRUK and the Turing in collaboration with the University 麻豆精选 and six other university partners.

As Turing Academic Lead, Slava works to continuously strengthen the partnership between the two organisations and the broader Turing University Network, forming new scientific and strategic partnerships and opportunities. Slava sits on the Research and Innovation Advisory Committee.

Professor Sylvie Delacroix, Professor in Law and Ethics

Professor Delacroix’s research focuses on the intersection between law and ethics, with a particular interest in habits and the infrastructure that molds our habits (data-reliant tools are an increasingly big part of that infrastructure).

Professor Luisa Orsini, Professor of Evolutionary Systems Biology and Environmental Omics, School of Biosciences

Professor Orsini applies high throughput sequencing technologies and AI to understand the impact of environmental change on freshwater ecosystems.

Dr Xilin Xia, Assistant Professor in Resilience Engineering, School of Engineering.

Dr Xia's research interests cover computational hydraulics, high-performance computing, machine learning and their applications in modelling and understanding hydraulic, hydrological, and geotechnical processes involved in natural hazards such as flooding and landslides.

Professor Yufeng Zhang, Chair in Operations Management, Head of the Department of Management

Professor Zhang's work aims to help companies cope with complex challenges and opportunities in managing global network operations with a primary focus on sustainability, digitalisation and engineering innovation.

Dr Christopher (Kit) Windows-Yule, Associate Professor in Chemical Engineering

Dr Windows-Yule's research interests concern the dynamics of particulate, fluid, and multiphase systems and the development of novel experimental and numerical methodologies through which these systems can be explored.
