 London-based period instrumental group, Ensemble Hesperi, bring the 18th century passion for botany to the stage with this mesmerising programme inspired by Telemann’s love of all things botanical and floral. In letters written to fellow composers Graun and Handel (each represented in this programme by one of their trio sonatas), Telemann described his love of plants, and is known to have written to friends to request specimens for his own collection. Declaring his passion for tulips, hyacinths and ranunculi, Telemann shared that he was especially fond of anemones, leaving James Oswald’s floral miniatures to provide the perfect bouquet fillers for this afternoon performance.\n
