Professor Langdon completed his undergraduate studies in psychology at Memorial University of Newfoundland and went on to complete a Doctor in Clinical Psychology degree at the Institute of Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience, King’s College, London as a Lord Rothermere Fellow.  He completed his PhD at the Tizard Centre, University of Kent as a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Research Fellow, before going on to complete a NIHR funded postdoctoral award. He is an Approved Clinician and has worked in the NHS as a clinician throughout his career.

Biography

Professor Langdon has spent the majority of his career working within NHS secure mental healthcare with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. He is an approved clinician as defined within the Mental Health Act and is registered as both a clinical and forensic psychologist.  

He was previously awarded International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IASSIDD) Distinguished Achievement Award for Research He is serving as a member of the Board of Directors of IASSIDD from 2024 to 2026. He is also a Trustee of Asperger East Anglia. Professor Langdon is the Honorary Associate Director of Research for Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust. Hehas supervised numerous clinical psychology trainees and PhD students and would welcome approaches from potential students and trainees.

Postgraduate supervision

Professor Langdon would welcome opportunities to supervise PhD students and trainee clinical psychologists who are interested in undertaking projects involving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This includes projects that focus upon criminal offending risk and/or forensic mental health as well as mental health.

Research interests

Professor Langdon is primarily interested in undertaking research involving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  He is specifically interested in developing and testing complex health interventions within clinical trials.
