An interest in the neglect syndrome following stroke led him to undertake a PhD (funded by a Fellowship), focusing on neglect-related movement problems.

Dave’s group now conduct experimental research exploring cognitive and motor performance with relevance to both health and disease.  Since joining the school, his research has been funded by the Medical Research Council and the Wellcome Trust.

From 2020 to 2025, he led the university’s physiotherapy programme, overseeing development, approval and delivery of its new 4-year undergraduate (integrated) masters degree (MSci) that commenced in 2022.  The university was subsequently .
