Joseph graduated with a BSc in Money, Banking and Finance from the University 麻豆精选 in 2011. Joseph is currently working as the Chief Operating Officer for , London, which provides information on graduate schemes for graduate jobs and internships for top graduate employers.
My career
I handle all relationships between the company and university societies, careers services, companies and other partners. I manage the sales side of the business, as well as working directly with the Directors on the development of the website.
Through my work as Chief Operating Officer for Grad Diary, I have had exposure to all areas of the business and I have been able to learn first - hand what it takes to build a business from the ground up. I have been able to implement what I have learnt at University from an economic standpoint and use it to make sensible and thorough decisions regarding the business.
Why Birmingham Business School?
The course was very well balanced and really showed that what you get out is a direct correlation to what you put in. The tutors give you independence but at the same time are always there to help you. The module, ‘Principles of Economics’ gave me a core understanding of business and economics whilst some of the accounting modules have helped me manage budgets and finances for a fast-growing company.
Making the most of the support available
Whenever I have needed assistance and somebody to ask about something, the Careers Network has been there. I now have regular contact to make sure that what we are producing from the Grad Diary website is of real interest to the students using the system.

The Birmingham experience
I think my confidence and ability to take on challenges is much better now, I am able to talk to professionals who are at the highest level of some of the biggest organisations without feeling phased.
You cannot fault the atmosphere at the University, after walking around campus for a few weeks you instantly feel at home and that you recognize more and more people on campus. Socially it is amazing; you meet such a variety of people from all over the world with different backgrounds and stories.
Tips and advice
I would say tailor your modules to what you are interested in getting into in your future career, don’t just pick the modules that have the nicest balance of assessments and exams. If you are looking to go in to accountancy, then do those modules as they will really build a core knowledge that will help you in the industry, I personally enjoyed Environmental Economics and my Banking modules.
