Research

My research explores disruptions of dominant discourses of identity in Speculative Fiction from Brazil and the Dominican Republic to create, reclaim and own space that is capacious and transformative for new identities and possibilities, amplifying voices otherwise erased by hegemonic discourse. I predominantly research representations of race, gender and sexuality within the frameworks of Cuirness and Africanfuturism, focusing on how Speculative Fiction can be used to criticise societal structures that perpetuate Westernised conceptions. I also engage with knowledge democracy and historic truth.
