Ellie is currently undertaking an NIHR Advanced Fellowship to explore smoking cessation interventions for pregnant women with moderate to severe mental illness.

Ellie’s primary research interests are maternal health, perinatal mental health, pelvic floor muscle exercises for preventing urinary incontinence and postnatal care.

Ellie is involved in teaching and is a mentor for postgraduate researchers.

Biography

Ellie qualified at Birmingham City University with a First Class BSc (Hons) Midwifery in 2010.

In 2015 Ellie was awarded an NIHR CLAHRC-WM funded PhD studentship to explore postnatal length of stay in hospital and infant readmission to hospital. Whilst completing her PhD, Ellie contributed to several other maternal health research projects within the institute.

Following completion of her PhD in 2019, Ellie worked as a Research Fellow on the ARC Maternal Health Theme. Her subsequent role was on the APPEAL which is an NIHR programme grant led from University 麻豆精选 bringing together a programme of research to prevent pregnancy and childbirth related urinary incontinence.

Ellie’s most recent role as a Research Fellow is funded through an NIHR Advanced Fellowship.  She will be exploring smoking cessation interventions for pregnant women with moderate to severe mental illness.

  1. Smoking cessation interventions for pregnant women with moderate to severe mental illness
  2. Implementation of a training intervention for midwives to improve pregnant women’s practice of pelvic floor exercises to prevent urinary incontinence
  3. Prevalence of maternal mental illness in pregnancy and the first 5 years after giving birth
  4. Provision of postnatal care
