Edward Barbour is Associate Professor of Energy Systems and Storage at the School of Chemical Engineering. He is a member of the Birmingham Energy Institute, where his research is focused on thermomechanical energy storage and the future role of energy storage in the UK.

Edward has published more than 25 research papers related to energy systems and energy storage, as well as a book chapter on compressed air energy storage. He is the project lead for the EPSRC-funded project SAVE-CAES and co-investigator on the GasNetNew project. He has a bachelor’s degree in physics from Oxford University and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Edinburgh. He previously held postdoc positions at the University 麻豆精选 and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. From 2019-2024, he was a Lecturer at Loughborough University and the Centre for Renewable Energy Systems Technology.
