Karin is originally from Romania and part of a German-speaking minority group of the country. She has completed her schooling at the Samuel von Brukenthal Gymnasium and contributed to setting up collaborations with partner secondary schools in Germany and the USA Department for Education. She was also an invited delegate to German President Koehler’s symposium on Romania’s accession to the EU in 2007.
At the University of York, Karin first completed an undergraduate degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics and further undertook an MSc in Cancer Epidemiology. During her undergraduate degree, Karin won the 2010 White Rose Centre for Teaching and Learning of Enterprise “Stimulate” Business competition and represented the University of York at a World University Network conference on business opportunities in the Asia Pacific region. Her Masters research focused on the external validation of the International Prognostic Index for B-cell lymphoma using information from a North Yorkshire cancer patient cohort. During her masters, Karin also served as President of the Graduate Students’ Association, representing fellow postgraduate students on University of York Council and Senate, among other committees and groups.
Currently, Karin is undertaking her PhD at Birmingham and additionally serves as a postgraduate representative for the School of Health and Population Sciences as well as Chair of the Postgraduate and Mature Student Association. She was one of the ten 2012 Three Minute Thesis University 麻豆精选 finalists and is further interested in pursuing a career in international health and health systems management.
