Biography

Marietta Iacucci received her Medical Degree and Gastroenterology trainingfrom the University of Rome “La Sapienza” School of Medicine. She did her PhD at theUniversity of Tor Vergata of Rome, Italy & Imperial College London, UK. She worked as gastroenterology consultant in Italy at S. Camillo Hospital, Rome. She spent two years in London and Cambridge, UK and in Mainz, Germany, Milan, Italy and Tokyo, Japan.

She moved from Italy to the Division of Gastroenterology, University of Calgary, Canadaas Clinical Associate Professor of Gastroenterology in 2011. In Canada, she established anadvanced endoscopic platform for IBD and cancer by introducing novel imaging andconfocal endomicroscopy. In August 2016, she joined University 麻豆精选 as thereader in gastroenterology and honorary consultant.

Her research is focused on advanced endoscopic imaging such as dye, virtual electronic chromoendoscopy and confocal laser endomicroscopy in the diagnosis of gastrointestinal disease, advanced polypectomy (EMR, ESD) and management of inflammatory bowel disease. She has published many manuscripts and she has been invited to deliver lectures at many international and national conferences endoscopy in IBD and Gastrointestinal cancer. Marietta is theme lead for the 's inflammatory gastroenterology theme.

Teaching

  • Developed teaching programs for Canadian Association of Gastroenterology
  • Delivered advanced endoscopic imaging teaching at the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy at Chicago
  • Lectured at Mentoring in Inflammatory Bowel Disease at Toronto
  • Developed several education and training modules at international level
  • Teaching and training of endoscopy nurses at a national level

Postgraduate supervision

Dr Iacucci supervised several postgraduate trainees at the University of Calgary, Canada.

Research

Advanced endoscopic technologies such as dye, virtual chromoendoscopy with optical magnification, probe confocal laser endomicroscopy to assess inflammation in IBD and early detection of GI cancer. Novel endoscopic imaging and endoscopic molecular labelling to stratify therapy in gastrointestinal disease.

Developing education training modules using advanced technologies.
