Dr Gavin Byrne is Head of Internationalisation for Birmingham Law School and teaches Political and Legal Theory, Jurisprudence and Property Law subjects.

Biography

Dr Byrne received a BCL from University College Dublin in 1999, an LLM by research from the University of Kent in 2001, and a PhD from Birmingham Law School in 2008. From 2001 to 2002 he worked with Élan Corporation plc, a leading global neuroscience based biotechnology company, as part of its Dublin-based, in-house legal group.

Research

His major research interest is in Jurisprudence, in particular the application of mainstream philosophy to issues in legal theory. His current research is on the perceived split between the Anglo-American and Continental traditions in relation to legal philosophy. He has specific expertise in the writings of Martin Heidegger and their application to legal philosophy.

Other activities

He is Head of Internationalisation for Birmingham Law School and Director of the Swedish Exchange Program.
