Research

Dr Kokkinis' research interests include corporate governance, bank corporate governance, and financial regulation. His monograph Corporate Law and Financial Instability (Routledge, 2017) critiques the corporate law framework for UK banks from a prudential regulatory perspective and argues for the need to reform banks' corporate objective to prioritise the financial sustainability of the entity. In parallel, he has published three articles on the Journal of Corporate Law Studies, the first on the bonus cap on bank managers' variable remuneration, the second on employee participation in corporate governance, and the third on the interplay of the Senior Manager Regime and Corporate culture.  His Banking Law textbook with Routledge, an advanced text, co-authored with Dr Andrea Miglionico, was published in 2021. Dr Kokkinis has recently done work on the regulatory suspensions that have resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic crisis; the opportunities and challenges for financial regulation posed by digital technologies and RegTech; and the corporate governance implications of non-performing loans. He is currently working on the following projects: (1) reconceptualising shareholder personhood in corporate law; (2) critiquing the transformation of corporate debt financing as a result of prudential regulation over the past three decades; (3) empirically examining the perceptions around purposeful culture of mid-level management in financial firms; (4) interrogating the effectiveness of the UK whistle-blower framework in the financial services; (5) assessing the institutional position of the European Banking Authority within the broader Banking Union regulatory architecture; (6) revisiting the issue of corporate liability for torts in light of libertarian ideas around responsibility and equal application of the law; (7) addressing the challenges posed for capital markets by dual-class voting shares in light of the Hayekian understanding of markets and law.
