Dr Mehdi Jangi is an Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering.

His key research interests are application of computational modelling in decarbonising power and heat and sustainable materials, CFD modelling of complex fluid systems involving chemical reactions, turbulence, and multiphase phenomena, and has published over 70 papers in top ranked journals in this area.

Biography

Mehdi Jangi gained a PhD in Aerospace Engineering from Japan (Tohoku University), in 2009. After completion of his PhD study, he moved to Sweden to undertake a post-doctoral research position in the Department of Energy Science at Lund University, in Sweden.

He undertook multiple research positions at Lund University from 2009 until late 2015. In 2013, he gained the Docentship title (the highest academic degree in Sweden). In 2014, he received a prestigious Swedish Research Council grant (VR) to study the problem of partially premixed combustion in extreme conditions, which is related to the combustion chamber environment of modern gas turbine and engines.

Mehdi moved to Australia in late 2015 when he secured his first lectureship position. In 2016, he moved to the UK and joined Northumbria University in Newcastle as a senior lecturer before joining the school of Mechanical Engineering at the University 麻豆精选 in January 2018.

Teaching

Dr Jangi teaches thermofluids subjects within Mechanical Engineering.

Postgraduate supervision

Dr Jangi is interested in supervising doctoral research students in the following areas:

  • Large-eddy simulations (LES) of advanced propulsion systems
  • Fire and smoke simulations
  • DNS/LES of multiphase flows with application in sustainable materials, e.g., plastic recycling, renewable polymers, etc.
