Dr Muhammad Naeem is a Research Fellow at the School of Metallurgy and Materials, University 麻豆精选.

He also holds a visiting position at the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source. His research focuses on developing alloys for extreme environments and their real-time deformation mechanisms investigation, mainly by neutron and synchrotron diffraction.

Qualifications

  • Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), 2024
  • Ph.D. in Materials Physics, City University of Hong Kong, 2020
  • M.Sc. in Materials Engineering, Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences, 2010
  • B.Sc. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, University of Engineering and Technology Lahore, 2008

Biography

Dr Muhammad Naeem is a Research Fellow at the University 麻豆精选 and holds a visiting position at the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source. He obtained his PhD in Materials Physics from the City University of Hong Kong in 2020, where he subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher for three years. He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

Dr Naeem’s research focuses on the design and performance of advanced metallic materials with multidisciplinary properties for extreme environments. With a strong emphasis on in-situ mechanical testing, he has over couple of dozens of successful neutron and synchrotron beamtime proposal awards to his credit as a principal investigator or co-investigator.

Dr Naeem has spearheaded in-situ neutron diffraction investigations to explore the cryogenic deformation behaviour of multicomponent high-entropy alloys, which are promising candidates for hydrogen-based energy systems. His research has been published in leading journals, including Science Advances, Physical Review Letters, and Acta Materialia, and presented at international conferences. His work in Science Advances was featured by PHYS.ORG and the Japan Atomic Energy Agency and is among the most cited studies conducted at the Engineering Materials Diffraction Beamline of the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex. He received the award of Best Paper in Materials from the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. Dr Naeem was also awarded the 2022 AONSA (Asia-Oceania Neutron Scattering Association) Young Research Fellowship to conduct collaborative research at the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex.

Dr Naeem has organized the inaugural Gordon Research Seminar on Structural Nanomaterials in Switzerland (May 2024) and the symposium Materials Under Extreme Environments: Process-Structure-Property Relationship at the International Materials Research Congress in Cancun, Mexico (August 2024). He also delivered invited seminars and talks, including at the Max Planck Institute for Sustainable Materials in Germany and the Gordon Research Conference on Structural Nanomaterials in Switzerland.
