In my NHS role I manage six members of staff and have overall responsibility for the delivery of the acute neuropsychology service at The University Hospital Birmingham. y duties include the assessment and treatment of people with, or suspected of having, organic brain damage from a variety of causes such as head injury, stroke, tumor, epilepsy and progressive neurological disorders. Research

My research topics and activities have been strongly influenced by my clinical and teaching interests and the overwhelming majority of my research output is a direct reflection of the work that I have undertaken as part of my role as Research Director for the ClinPsyD and Forens.ClinPsyD programmes.

The first theme relates to meta-analyses and systematic reviews. I have published several meta-analyses for the Cochrane Collaboration on the topic of psychological therapies for persons with schizophrenia and I currently hold the post of ‘editor for psychological interventions’ with the Schizophrenia Group of the Cochrane Collaboration. I have also been able to draw on my experience with the Cochrane Collaboration to give our students the highest quality training and to equip them with the most up-to-date analytical skills.

Another research theme reflects my interests as a practitioner at the Neuroscience Centre within University Hospital Birmingham, as well as reflecting my teaching interests in neuro psychological assessment. This theme, therefore, relates to the assessment and treatment of persons with neurological impairment.

My other clinical publications reflect the broad range of topics pertinent to clinical psychology, but I have particularly maintained the focus on the assessment and treatment of persons with enduring mental and psychotic illness that is also evident in my published meta-analyses and systematic reviews.
