Dr Fay Julal Cnossen is a teaching-focused associate professor. Her teaching focuses on social and personality psychology. Her research focuses on adult attachment and university students’ problem-coping and support-seeking.

Biography

Dr Fay Julal Cnossen completed her BA (Hons) and MSc at Lancaster University, where she first became interested in adult attachment theory. She went on to complete a PhD examining attachment and caregiving in young adulthood under the supervision of Dr Katherine Carnelley in the Centre of Self and Identity, University of Southampton. Dr Julal Cnossen is an executive member of the UK Attachment Network (UKAN; ).

Research

Dr Fay Julal Cnossen’s research is informed by adult attachment theory. She is interested in how attachment orientations (e.g., within parent – adult-child and adult-adult (e.g., romantic) relationships) affect intra- and interpersonal outcomes.  Dr Julal Cnossen is also interested in the implications of change in attachment networks over time. Related to her teaching-focused position, Dr Julal Cnossen conducts research into students’ problem-coping and support-seeking, in particular their use of social support networks and student support services.
