Steven Marwaha is an academic Psychiatrist whose main interest is in early intervention and mood disorders, such as bipolar disorder and depression. His work focusses on pathways to illness and care, and ways of improving the clinical outcomes of this group using both pharmacological and psychological interventions. As a Consultant Psychiatrist he runs the Specialist Mood Disorders Clinic in Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust.

Biography

Steven read Medicine and Social and Political Sciences at the University of Cambridge, and qualified as a medical doctor at University College London (UCL) completing his post graduate Psychiatry training there.  He was a Clinical Lecturer in Social and Community Psychiatry at UCL before moving to be a Senior Lecturer and then Reader at the University of Warwick. He took up his current post in 2018.

Current research projects:

The Mental Health and Productivity Programme (MHPP) is collaborating across a range of diverse partners to provide an evidence informed, cost effective and sustainable resource that supports good mental health at work, reduces stigma and will ultimately increase productivity.

The clinical and cost-effectiveness of Stimulant compared with Non-stimulant medication for adults with Attention-deficit / hyperactivity disorder and a history of Psychosis or biPolar disordER: SNAPPER

Cognitive Remediation in Bipolar (CRiB2): a randomised trial assessing efficacy and mechanisms of cognitive remediation therapy compared to treatment as usual.

Randomised controlled trial of the Community Navigator programme to reduce loneliness and depression for adults with treatment resistant depression in secondary mental health services.
