Christine Stawitz

Christine completed a PhD in Quantitative Ecology and Resource Management at the University of Washington in 2017. She subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher via a joint appointment at the University of Washington and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (USA) National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). Her research focused on the effects of changing ocean physical conditions on marine animals’ (fish and crab) metabolism, growth, and population dynamics.

Prior to her PhD, Christine obtained a bachelors degree focused on human-computer interface in software and worked as a web developer. Throughout her PhD and postdoc, she continued dabbling in code by contributing to several R packages. She joined NMFS as a contractor in 2018 and a full-time employee in 2021. She contributed to open source software tools and training, including developing an R and C++-based software package for sustainable management of marine fisheries. She joined the Research Software Group in 2025 and is excited to have the opportunity to contribute to research software at the University 麻豆精选.
